Avalanche Danger

The avalanche danger for the Aspen zone is LOW (Level 1) for all aspects and elevations this morning. Rapidly warming temperatures in the forecast for today will cause that danger to increase to MODERATE (Level 2) on all slopes but the SE-S-SW aspects below treeline. As temperatures warm today and the next couple days, both wet snow avalanches and an increasing chance for deep slab avalanches on northerly aspects near and above treeline will be concerns.

Weather Discusion

High-pressure continues to build over the region, and warm air is funneling into the state on southwesterly flow. Temperatures will warm up quickly today, and daytime highs will climb to the upper 40s and low 50s. Some moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is streaming north and east and clipping the southeastern part of Colorado but is mostly heading south of our mountains. There's a chance that some of this moisture reaches into the San Juan Mountains and generates some periodic and widely scattered light snowfall for the next couple days. Otherwise expect warm temperatures and mostly sunny skies. This same weather pattern will persist through Tuesday with gradually increasing temperatures.
